Long road ahead...

Good news! I got one of my breaking hearts done. Bad news. I'm having a tiny bit of second sock syndrome.  I have it casted on but I can't wait to be done. I bought that yarn from loopy ewe and want desperately to start something with it.

So its official. I'm moving out of my parents house. By this time next week I will be moved in and settled. I am moving in with a friend from work. The house is about ten minutes from my parents house. And by May we are hoping that another friend from work will move in with us. I'm excited....but a little apprehensive.

It seems like the past month or so has been podcast mania. A few of my favorites are Needle Bound and DramaticKnits. On Needle Bound she does so much more then knitting.  I really enjoy it. And DramaticKnits is from a guy's perspective which is nice for a change. They are both great.

That's it for now.

YAY!

I got my first piddleloop!

mail time!!!!

I got my Loopy Ewe shipment today! I have been waiting since Monday. I ordered three skeins of sock yarn, 2-16" circulars, size 1.5. They are so I can try socks on two circs. I also got my first sock blocker. That's probably my favorite part. For some reason I thought they came in sets of two, so I will probably order another one soon.

This is Three Irish Girls. Adorn Sock base, Kristy colorway. 80% merino, and 20% nylon, and 430 yards. I think this is my favorite. It has dark red, chocolate brown, light green, and a light robin's egg blue. Really pretty.

This is Yarn Love. Juliet base, Nirvana colorway. 80/20 merino/nylon. 420 yards. This has various blues and greens. Also some purples and browns.

This is also Three Irish Girls. Adorn sock base, Nora colorway. 80/20 merino/nylon. 430 yards. Different shades of light pink, dark browns, light yellows, different light blues and greens. Really pretty. Not sure what my comfort zone is but I think this is out of it. haha

happy spring??

March is approaching but February isn't going out without a fight. Here in Northeastern Indiana we have gotten ice and like four inches of snow. And this just started last night. I do think however that it has stopped snowing. (fingers crossed)

Good news: my friend Sam and I will be moving into our new (to us) house the first week of March. I am excited and nervous at the same time. I will still be living in the same town as my parents but this is my first time out on my own. I just want to prove to them that I can do it. I should be packing instead of knitting and blogging....

I feel like I have been pretty knitting productive. I finished my socks!

And just tonight I started on my "second pair". Well technically these would be my third pair of socks but my first pair are ugly and I made them like four years ago. I am making The Breaking Hearts pattern. This is the first pattern I have actually spent money on. This, however, is not the best time for me to be buying all this knitting stuff.

I also just today purchased my first Piddleloop . I also purchased sock blockers and three pairs of socks worth of yarn from The Loopy Ewe I'm really excited for all of that to come in the mail.

I think that is it for now...happy knitting!

a bit chatty

I wrote this post yesterday (Monday) but had some computer problems so here it is:

Seems as though it has a been a while since I last posted. I can't say I really have an excuse.

My friend Sam and I found a house! The owners are building a new house about 30 minutes from here so they are renting there present house to us. The house is actually right next door to Sam's parents which isn't exactly ideal but her parents are helping us out a lot in various ways. We should be moving in in early March. Then we may be getting a third roommate in July.

I am still working on the same projects I have been but I have made good progress on my first sock. The heel that I was nervous about was actually pretty easy. My only problem was with picking up stitches. Now my next problem is going to be with the Kitchener stitch to close the toe. I have never used it before. Hoping to finish that tonight and start the second one before tomorrow.

Its only Monday but my schedule for this weekend is pretty full already. Friday, well I work. Saturday I will be going with Angola's Winter Guard. When I was in high school (graduated 2010) I was in Marching Band all four years. But what I really wanted to do was guard (the group with the flags and guns). In our state they have Winter Guard which is just the flags, rifles, and sabres spinning and dancing to pre-recorded music. My senior year was actually the first year my mother allowed me to do it. So Saturday I am going to go with them and help out. I'm excited. Then Sunday I am going with my mom, her cousin, and her aunt to the Princess Diana exhibit in Kalamazoo. That should be cool.

Hopefully I'll find time to post again soon. Happy Knitting!

.....

on to the heel............

bloggy blog blog

OK so round two. Here it goes.

I have been working kind of weird shifts at work so by the time I get home I don't feel like doing much of anything. The things I do feel like doing are knitting and watching the Knit Girllls videocast. I have been working on two projects.

The first one is a baby sweater/dress. This is a project for a friend/coworker of my mother's who is kind of like an older sister to me. She just recently gave birth to a beautiful baby girl.  I was secretly hoping that she would have the baby on my birthday which is Friday (the 14th) but she was a week shy. I guess that is still pretty cool. But I am doing it in brown and pink with Cascade 220. My LYS does not carry 220 superwash so I am hoping she doesn't mind having to hand wash it. I did consider offering to hand wash it for her anytime it needed washing. I assume being a new mother is probably a tad time consuming. We'll see what happens when she gets it though. I am also thinking about making some booties in the same brown and perhaps a jumper. It depends on how much yarn I have left over though.

Obviously the bottom of the dress won't look sinched but I am only 16 inch circulars.

OK on to project #2
In the spirit of my knitting resolutions for 2011 I decided to start a pair of socks. This, if completed, will only be my second pair. I have attempted some other pairs but for various reasons had to quit. This pair is using another Cascade yarn called Heritage Handpaints and I am really enjoying using it. The pattern is Hermione's Everyday Socks. I first saw Carin on Round the Twist use this pattern and she had nothing but good things to say about it. It is a super easy top down pattern. Just a 4-row pattern repeat for the cuff then do the heel and use the same pattern for the top of the foot. I have never actually completed a top down sock so I am a little nervous the heel and picking up stitches.

I have noticed that the stitch definition is better when the fabric is stretched so once the sock is being worn you will be able to see the actual pattern. The picture that is used in the pattern has the sock being worn so you get the idea of what you are actually going to see.

So that is good I think. Happy knitting!

so here it goes...

This is going to be a blog about my knitting and my life. Hopefully I actually get some readers.

I graduated from high school in 2010. I am not attending college as of now. If that'll change, I'm not sure. So, my new plan is to work and make money until I decide what my career is going to be. Whether that is in itself a waste of time, I'm not sure. Right now, I am working at McDonald's. I started when I was 16 to have gas money for my car. In the meantime, while I decide on my future, I have decided to work my way up the McDonald's chain. (more on that later, possibly).

I live with my parents right now and our golden retriever, Lucas. That, however, is soon changing. (more to come)

On to the knitting!! I have been knitting since I was in middle school I think. Its been a while. I took a 6 month hiatus from knitting. It was my senior year so I wanted to focus on that. But now I am back to my crafty ways. You'd think since I have been knitting for quite a while that I would be pretty advance but not so much. One of my new year's resolutions was to broaden my knitting horizons. So far so good.

OK, I think that is a good start to the beginning of my blog. It was a tad more rambly then I intended.  So for now, happy knitting.
